Mid-Century Modern Custom Home in Fort Lauderdale

Portfolio type: Finished photos
project status: completed
MidMod is a 3,200 sq ft Mid-Century Modern custom home on a compact corner lot in Wilton Manors.
Designed and built by STUDIO 818 from the ground up, the home reinterprets iconic Mid-Century principles—floating rooflines, clerestory windows, and material authenticity—for South Florida’s climate and codes. Constructed in 14 months, it sold swiftly and set a new record for cost per sq ft in the neighborhood.

The vision was a private retreat for a global entrepreneur—timeless, modern, and distinctly Mid-Century. Privacy was paramount, yet the home also needed to feel expansive and light-filled despite three street-facing elevations. Our Project Roadmap™ established feasibility, and after five months of design development and four months of permitting—including zoning variances—we secured a path to deliver the design with execution certainty.

Architectural Solutions

Every architectural move balanced heritage with modern performance.

  • Floating roofline engineered to meet hurricane codes and wrapped in porcelain for carefree maintenance.
  • Clerestory windows wrapping the perimeter for natural, indirect light while maintaining privacy.
  • The home’s architectural spine running from front to back was clad in a fossil shell limestone sourced from Spain.
  • Layered façades and breeze block wall shielding outdoor living areas while allowing airflow.
Lifestyle Experience

Inside, 10-foot sliding glass walls dissolve boundaries between interior living and the pavilion-style pool terrace. A stepped wraparound platform transforms a grade shift into a resort-like elevation, framing the outdoor lounge and pool. Flexible planning—including a detached guest suite—supports both private retreats and entertaining, creating a true sanctuary for modern entrepreneurial living.

Outcome

MidMod surpassed Wilton Manors’ stringent energy standards with pre-wiring for solar power, smart home integration, and a fully sealed attic system. Delivered turnkey in just 14 months, the home sold quickly—before neighboring projects launched—and set a record cost per sq ft upon sale. The result is a Mid-Century Modern statement home that embodies architectural distinction and investment-grade performance.

Mid-Century Modern Custom Home in Wilton Manors

MidMod proves that timeless design and modern performance can coexist seamlessly. On a compact corner lot in Wilton Manors, STUDIO 818 delivered a 3,200 sq ft residence that feels expansive, private, and filled with natural light. The cantilevered roofline and clerestory glazing define its architectural presence—hallmarks of Mid-Century Modern design reinterpreted for South Florida’s climate and codes.

A Private Compound in the City

Despite two street-facing elevations, the home lives like a secluded retreat. Layered façades of concrete, wood, and breeze block create privacy while maintaining the clean horizontality central to mid-mod architecture. Behind these walls, the pool and outdoor lounge unfold as a private entertainment pavilion framed by the wraparound step detail that transforms a grade shift into a resort-like platform.

Curated Materials and Finishes for Timeless Style

At the heart of the design is a structural wall clad in fossil shell limestone imported from Spain. Running from entry to pool terrace, it is both functional and emotive, a tactile connection that invites touch and grounds the home in place. Every material was curated with equal care: polished concrete floors with a terrazzo-inspired aggregate, custom cabinetry echoing the home’s linear language, and artisanal tilework from Spain, Japan, and Morocco.

Privacy and Indoor–Outdoor Living by Design

The main living space flows effortlessly to the outdoors through 10-foot sliding glass walls. Interiors are bathed in soft daylight from clerestory windows, while strategic window placement eliminates the need for blinds or heavy treatments. From morning coffee in filtered light to evening entertaining by the pool, the home is designed for daily rituals as much as for memorable gatherings.

Flexible Floor Plan for Modern Living

A detached garage structure extends the lifestyle possibilities. Paired with a private guest suite, it offers versatility as a retreat for visitors, a poolside studio, or a future entertainment lounge. Inside the main home, a flexible third room transitions between office, bedroom, or creative space—future-proofing the residence for evolving needs.

A Home that Performs as Beautifully as it Lives

MidMod’s beauty is matched by its performance. A fully sealed attic system and pre-wiring for solar and smart home systems future-proof the residence, while hurricane-engineered trusses ensure the cantilevered roofline is as strong as it is iconic. Wrapped in Italian porcelain the wood look on the exterior is maintenance free. The result is a custom home that embodies Mid-Century Modern authenticity while exceeding modern standards for resilience and energy efficiency.

A Record-Setting Mid-Century Modern Residence

Constructed in just 14 months, MidMod was offered turnkey and sold quickly setting a new record for sale price per sq ft in Wilton Manors. More than a home, it became a benchmark for how Mid-Century Modern architecture can be reimagined as both lifestyle sanctuary and investment-grade asset in South Florida.
